This church was built by the Soviet army as a military affiliated church in the early 1907. Originally it was made from a wooden structure. 4 years later, red bricks walls were built outside of wooden walls. It was re-constructed and completed in 1932. The new church reaches 53.35-meter-highand covers 721 square meters. The construction belongs to the Neo-Byzantine style.
The St. Sofia Orthodox Church is well known for its unique architecture style in the world. The main structure is laid out in the shape of a cross with the main hall topped with a huge green tipped dome. There are smaller steeples, and the domes and steeples are topped with gold colored crosses.There is a Sofia Square in front of it. The square has 6,648 square meters. Tourists can have a rest here during their trip.
