Together with the beginning of construction for 8 new Beijing subway lines, the total planning scale of Beijing subway is estimated to reach 215 kilometers. According to the Beijing Railway Transportation Bureau, the operating dates of these 8 new Beijing subway lines have been determined: the S1 maglev train will put into service on March 28, 2013, Line Changping, Line 8 Extension and Line Fangshan will start on December 28, 2013, Western Suburb Line on February 28, 2014, Line 6 Phase 2 pm November 28, 2014, Line 15 Phase 1 West Section on December 28, 2014 and Line 16 on December 28, 2015.

It is hoped that, the rapid development of railway transportation network in Beijing will more or less contribute for the reduction of traffic congestion problem. Nowadays, Beijing subway has turned out to be one of the best and time concerned transportation methods especially for traveling within the city center of Beijing. Traffic congestion is a big problem in this modern metropolis and perhaps with the opening of all these subway lines in year 2015, the ground traffic problems can be reduced.
