Being famous for the natural beauties and religious culture, Tibet has attracted millions of tourists worldwide every year.

Accompanying the growing tourist population, the death tolls of Mountain Sickness increase too. In the past, if the tourist died from the Mountain Sickness, the family of the victim can hardly get enough compensation unless the travelling agency made any mistake and should be responsible for the death of tourists.

In order to better protect the tourists’ benefits, Tibet Tourism Administration launched the first Mountain Sickness Insurance, which covered compensation for death, physical disabilities and medical bills caused by the Mountain Sickness.

All tourists in Tibet are able to buy this new insurance. According to the policy, the coverage period is 15 days starting from the arrival date. There are two kinds of premiums. One is RMB50 and the other is RMB100. For the first RMB50 policy, the maximum compensation is RMB100,000. For the other RMB100 policy, the maximum compensation runs up to RMB200,000.

With the introduction of this new insurance, more and more tourists have the courage to climb Tibet and watch the scenery at “the roof of the world”.
