The Forbidden City to Try Half Day Closing on Off-season Mondays of 2013

Jan 8, 2013

To better protect the Forbidden City (also known as the palace museum)—one of the world’s cultural heritages, carry out the timely inspection on the ancient buildings/collections, and maintain the exhibition equipment/service facilities periodically, the Forbidden City decided to try the new half-day closure policy on Monday afternoons exclusive of legal public holidays, starting from Jan. 1, 2013 to March 31, 2013.
The opening time on each Monday will be from 8:30 to 12:00. The ticket office will be closed at 11:00 and the ticket check will be finished at 11:10. The closing time of the Forbidden City will be 12:00.
This off-season trial will include the following dates: Jan. 7, 2013, Jan. 14, 2013, Jan. 21, 2013, Jan. 28, 2013, Feb. 4, 2013, Feb. 18, 2013, Feb. 25, 2013, March 4, 2013, March 11, 2013, and March 25, 2013. The exceptional case is Feb. 11, 2013, which is the second day of the Chinese Lunar New Year and the Forbidden City will be open for a whole day on that date. The official says this policy will not bring any impact on visitors’ Forbidden City tour, coz the off season is not a popular time to visit.
